New Born

Newborn photography is a once in a lifetime experience as your child will change and grow in the blink of an eye. Capturing these teeny tiny details that will change so quickly is an investment that you will treasure forever. Most newborn sessions take place within the first 10-14 days after the baby is born.

When is the perfect time to do this photoshoots?

I recommend to do them before the baby gets 15 days born because he mantains his fetal position.

TIPS:

• Please try to keep baby awake and stimulated for at least 2 hours before the session. Sometimes it can be helpful to give your baby a bath the morning of the session to help keep them awake. An extra added bonus is that a bath and
some lotion can help smooth some flaky baby skin! I know it’shard, but this is very important! I know what you are thinking – my baby will be fine, she sleeps all day! Yes –that may be the case. But, keep in mind your baby sleeps all day –at home, dressed, swaddled, cuddled while feeding- and uninterrupted. Here, baby will be naked, touched, moved, messed with and posed –so this is why it is so important to get them into as deep of a sleep as we can!
• As you know, babies sleep best with a nice, full tummy. The baby needs to be fed as much as possible during the 12 hours prior to the session. This is especially important for breastfed babies. An extra feeding or two will help to get them into the deep sleep that is desirable for their session! If you live close, please plan to feed baby right before you leave, and allow him to fall asleep in the car on the way to the studio. This will put them into a deep sleep so they are ready to go when you arrive. If you are over 30 minutes away, please plan to feed baby once you arrive. TAKE YOUR TIME!!! A full tummy is crucial!! If baby isn’t full, she is going to want to snack
frequently!! If you are nursing, but supplementing with formula, the feed before the session is the time to do so – as formula sits heavier on the belly and allows them to sleep deeper & longer. A nursing cover is available for use in the studio.
• If you are nursing, please try to avoid eating any foods for 24-48 hours before your session that could upset baby’s tummy –including caffeine, spicy foods, and/or gassy foods.
• Please dress baby as loosely as possible to come to the studio, so that when you arrive and undress him/her, the disturbance is minimal if sleeping, and there are minimal red marks on baby’s skin. One-piece sleepers (snap or zip up) are perfect. Please –no onesies or clothing that has to be removed over their head!
• Please try to trim/file baby’s nails before the session to avoid scratches on baby’s face before, and during the session.
• Do not worry if baby pees or poops on something –its an occupational hazard here, and happens all the time! I have plenty of blankets and props to swap out in case of accidents –and everything goes in the wash!

WHAT TO BRING:

• Extra clothes – for you and baby! Accidents can happen –and they do! Baby will be naked most of the time; I’ve seen many parents (and myself!) get wet –or worse!
• Extra blankets –to keep baby wrapped, snuggly and warm in between shots and if/when they need to feed.
• Pacifier –if you are open to it, please bring it along even if baby hasn’t taken it from youyet. Sometimes a few seconds with a pacifier is just the trick to get baby settled and into the next pose! Extra bottles of breast milk and/or formula are great to have as well. The studio environment will be calm and peaceful. Please limit the people attending the session to only parents and/or those being photographed. If you have older children to include in the session, please plan to have someone bring them at the beginning of the session, so that young children are not trying to stay calm and quiet during their siblings’ session – that’s hard for them! And it’s boring for them too! And often times it can lead to a stressed out mommy, which leads to a stressed baby –and we don’t want that!
Cameras and video cameras are not permitted in the studio –this includes cell phones.
For the most part, your job during the session will be to sit back and relax! I will try to avoid handing baby back and forth to mom as much as I possibly can, so baby doesn’t smell Mommy. However, I may occasionally need your assistance with
a particular shot, so be prepared to jump in as a “spotter” when necessary! Feel free to bring a book to read, a tablet to play on, thank you cards, etc. to pass the time with during the session!
